Highlights from concert works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and soloists

An album of evocative piano music performed by 12 pianists from Latin America, inspired by the muses of Greek mythology. It was nominated for Best Classical Album in Costa Rica) in 2022.

Pas de Deux, for cello and piano, was written for my friends Roland Gjernes and Cameron Pieper. Here’s the final movement! It has exciting Latin rhythms!

El Tiempo es Otro Río, a chaconne for string orchestra performed here by Maryland Summer Strings and Kristofer Sanz

The orchestral version of “El Tiempo es Otro Río” carried the title of “El Poble Salva al Poble”, in honor of the volunteers of the community of Alaquas, where it was performed at a charity concert in Valencia after the tragic floods of October 2025.

Bailongo, o Danzas de Pasión y Desdén has been performed a few times already both in Costa Rica and the US. Here's a performance by the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Costa Rica conducted by Alejandro Gutierrez

SEQUOIA, premiered by Luis A. Viquez and the University of South Dakota, was written after several visits to one of my favorite national parks.

Heredia por Media Calle contains folk songs from my native province of Heredia, Costa Rica. It was commissioned by the Latin-Grammy winning ensemble Orquesta Sinfónica de Heredia, conducted here by Josué Jiménez

“Chichen Itzá” is the first piece in a trilogy about Mesoamerican sites written for symphonic band. (“Tikal” and “Copán” haven’t been recorded yet!)

SWASHBUCKLER, for 6 trumpets, was performed live by Tromba Mundi at Carnegie Hall

This excerpt from Costa Rica Aérea is a fun scherzo based on the medieval melody “Sumer is Icumen in”. Orquesta Sinfónica de Nacional de Costa Rica, conducted by Carl St. Clair.

URANIA, the last one of the Doce Musas, a set of 12 piano pieces written for students of the University of Costa Rica. Performed here by David Saravia.
